In Memory

Richard (Richie) Jones

From brother Kenn Jones -

Rich Jones

He was born in Hackensack NJ on November 20, 1946. He lived at 505 Oakland Ave River Vale, NJ until he graduated from Pascack Valley High School, in 1965. He played defensive end and most times offensive end. Winning seasons were no stranger to those years he played. He headed out to the Midwest to Pratt, Kansas where he attended Pratt Junior College.

He then moved on to Florida State University, where he played as a defensive end and played in the Gator Bowl. He concluded his education at University of Kansas, Lawrence.

He married Glenna Johnson and had two girls, Casse and Erika. He made his home in Lawrence out by Lake Clinton on a sprawling ranch of 70 or so acres. He and Glenna had two grand children from Casse, Kinley and Kale. Kinley was not allowed to stay at Grandpa’s house alone or Rich would have had her on a horse or a 4 wheeler. Casse just was not ready for that challenge.

He loved his ranch which was called the Black Hat Ranch. In addition, he loved competing in penning events and Cowboy Rodeo’s. His last rodeo was The Extreme Cowboy Rodeo where he would face his final run.

Even from a small boy, the open air and horses were in his system. He spent his entire adult life living his calling. He was quite well known around Lawrence, but the Sheriff was kind to him none the less. Rich liked to help anyone and everyone around the area. All any of his neighbors had to do was to holler at him, and he would be right there for them.

There are many stories about Rich, like when he met his classmates for golfing at Myrtle Beach and only played with a 9 iron. But most of the stories you all could tell about him were more eventful and a great laugh.

It will never be said that Rich was not the life of the party. He usually was the one having the party. With you or without you there was going to be a party. He had many friends and kept all of them throughout his entire life. Which sadly came to a close on June 23, 2007.

Happy trails to you Rich, until we meet again.

Love

Kenn
