George’s family thanked me for attending the memorial service last week, but I was honored to be there and learn a little about this guy with an amazing smile who must have sat next to me in homeroom at PVRHS.

As his friends and family shared impressions and memories, I got an image of someone with an extraordinary perspective, an ability to see a chance for joy in everyday situations. It seems he was creative and resourceful, and early on, as the oldest of three kids, he was able to throw himself into life “full tilt,” accepting his responsibilities with brilliance and ease.

After the memorial service and gathering last week, I came home and raised a glass to George and a life well lived. He knew how to enjoy life and he reminds me to experience life to the fullest.

It would be great to hear from any classmates who knew George at PVRHS.

George,

I have always thought of you over the years because I still have the bump on my foot from Pine Lake  (circa 1964) where you, Ernie Abbott, Gale Crowley and I were playing football on the beach.  You stepped on my foot so hard, and I cried out in pain.  You got on your knees rubbing my foot and was so sorry you had tears in your eyes. You couldn't have been sweeter...But I got you in trouble as your Dad ran over and scolded you, but he ended by gently saying " George, you must be gentle with girls"...

You were always a Sweetheart with that twinkle in your  eyes and great smile.  You are in my prayers and I know you are in a Beautiful Place.

Joanna and Maria - what beautiful thoughts for George.  With such a large class of 65, we didn't all know each other well but we have a connection that seems to get more precious as we age.
